CPA Study Tips For Parents

Since a large number of businesses hire a certified public accountant or CPA, many people are interested in joining this field. However, for this they have to first take the CPA exam which consists of four sections. The CPA exam is considered to be one of the most difficult exams in the world and a person has to spend a lot of time to prepare for the exam which can be difficult for parents with young children. When you’re a parent, you already have to spend many hours looking after your children and have less time available for CPA prep which makes life tricky. So, here are some tips which will help parents with young children prepare for the CPA exam that will hopefully make life a little bit easier.

Keep the children confined

One of the best ways you can ensure that they can study uninterrupted is by keeping the child confined to a specific area of the house, where the child is safe. This will ensure that the child does not wander around the house and get into trouble, which will force you to abandon your studies. The area should be selected in a bedroom or playroom or other area in the house. Access to and exit from the area should be monitored. The child should be provided with toys, puzzles, and games that they enjoy, so that they are engrossed in playing the games and stay busy. If toys which make a noise are used, you will know that the child is playing the game.

Set a daily routine

It is important for you to set a daily routine for the child, since most children enjoy having a daily routine that they can predict. For example, if the child knows that they will be able to play with their favorite toys in a specific area for a few hours daily, they will look forward to it. It is also important to explain to the child (especially an older child) that you need this time for studying–which is a very important activity–and that you have to study continuously without any interruption. This will also help you in estimating the time available and planning your studies accordingly.

As part of a daily routine you can also consider utilizing the help of a CPA prep tutor to help you study. This way you can make the most of your time which gives you more opportunities to be with your child. Many tutoring programs also offer sessions online so you can do all of your CPA prep from home.

Get help in childcare

One of the best ways you can focus on studying and avoid interruptions is by having someone else take care of your child during your study periods. If you can, try asking family members or friends for help in looking after the child when you are studying. Often the grandparents can be even be invited home during the CPA exam preparation. In addition to taking care of the child (which allows them to spend quality time with their grandchild) they can also potentially help in household chores, so that you have more time for CPA prep. Alternately, teenagers can be hired for looking after you child while you focus on studies.

Watching television

One of the best ways of keeping younger children busy so that they do not cry or wander about, is by letting them watch their favorite program on television. In the last decade, there has been a massive increase in the number and type of television programs which are available. So, you can spend some time to find out which programs your child enjoys the most and will watch continuously. Then during the time you want to study for the CPA exam, the child can be allowed to watch their favorite program. In some cases, the program may be recorded, and only shown during the study period for the parent so that it feels more special.
