Where sex and tech come together

Special “Talk Sex with Sue” — and I’m on it

February 27th, 2007

Dan Savage — I’m starstruck already — and I will be on a special episode of Talk Sex with Sue this Sunday, airing on Oxygen at 11pm EST. It’s a live call-in show so if you have any questions about sex and technology, this is your chance to ask all of us at once.

Here’s the info from the show producers:

Sex - The New Rules

‘Talk Sex’ Special Airs Sunday, March 4

Is flirting in a chatroom the same as cheating? Have you ever had an orgasm online? Is Internet porn affecting your relationship?

Sexual technology - or “sex-tech” - is affecting contemporary love-lives in unique and unpredictable ways. Can relationships thrive and survive with modern technology? Not unless we know the new rules.

On Sunday, March 4, Sue will be joined by two special guests to explore the rapidly changing bitmap of 2K romance. The show, as always, is live, and our experts will be taking your calls.

Joining Sue will be the insightful Dan Savage (pictured right). Dan writes “Savage Love,” an internationally syndicated sex-advice column. He is also the editor of The Stranger, Seattle’s weekly newspaper, and the award-winning author of “The Kid” (Pen-West Award), a memoir about adoption, as well as “Skipping Toward Gomorrah” (Lambda Literary Award), “The Commitment”, and “Savage Love”, a collection of his sex advice columns. His work regularly appears in the op-ed pages of The New York Times, and nobody can cut through relationship crap like Dan Savage.

Also on hand will be Regina Lynn (pictured left), author of “The Sexual Revolution 2.0: Getting Connected, Upgrading Your Sex Life, and Finding True Love — or at Least a Dinner Date — in the Internet Age”. Regina is the perfect expert for this topic, and her humorous take on the rules of electronic romance are refreshing and informative.

And you can participate right now! Go to our SEX SURVEY section and give us your feedback on sex-tech in your love-life. Does it make sex better, or worse? We want to know, and we will discuss your feedback on the program.

This is an experiment for us, so it should be lively, wacky, and hopefully helpful. It may even reboot your relationship! With this topic, even Sue will learn a thing or two this time around!

Don’t miss the show on Oxygen TV, live at 11 PM EST, on March 4.

I got a really nice email this morning

February 2nd, 2007

Matt said it was okay to blog this. I don’t normally go public with “hey look someone said something nice about my work!” but I was feeling down and this brightened my day, so I’m sharing it.

Re: Pornography Is Not the Decider

As always, great column. The timing on this one happened to be
perfect for me, since I’m in the middle of a strategic analysis of
Blu-Ray market viability for a project in my MBA Program. Last night
we had a long discussion about the idea that porn is moving out of
the living room and onto the computer, and even when it does stay in
the living room, it hides on the DVR or the TIVO. Consensus in the
group was that this was crazy talk and that the adult film industry
was (again) going to make or break the format standard. Small minded
fools!

I emailed everyone in the group a copy of your article this morning.
As far as I’m concerned, you’re a subject matter expert in this
domain. Case closed. :-)
