Women outnumber men online. Duh.

Why does this surprise anyone? The internet is all about relationships and talking. Pretty soon, there won’t be any reason for men to log on at all.

*evil grin*

It’s a bit shocking to hear, but probably only because I saw the era when 68% of people online was a joke (try about a tenth of a percent and you’d be close) and though it wasn’t exactly all male calling it male dominated would be an understatement. I’m not surprised as such though, since it makes perfect sense. In more social areas that aren’t sports related (or gay related or anything obvious like that), I’ve long since noticed that women are more common then guys - it much more common for people to consider it a bit odd that I (male) am showing up to hang out. Why that would be odd I don’t know, despite not cruising for women per se it would still seem like a good thing in my book.

Have you ever seen the LiveJournal gender stats?

Women are still outnumbered about 3 to 1 in Second Life, something I study, but they tend to be the more serious users, putting in a lot more hours and leading the communities. I think what we’re seeing in blogs and beginning to see in virtual worlds is what Xylitol remembered from the first days of the Web. The earliest adopters and tech tourists tended to be men. But as the technology matures and the blog/virtual world/social network becomes more about communication and identity establishment, the environment starts to skew noticeably female.

On the side of getting in touch and talking about your self on the Internet. I understand it completly that there is more female then male and I see it while browsing blogs, videos, profiles pages and comics. But what about the gamers! Are they even included into this study? Since for the only exception of WOW wich has probably the highest number and percentage of female player for a complete video game, puting a side any flash or forum based games. I dont see, hear or read about many females in gaming. Way far from me the idea of denying there existances and I am quite happy to hear someone talking about something else then balls, but and cock jokes in various games. As every individual person has a different viewpoint from the Internet, I supose I am probably probably simply hanging in to many sausage online fest, but what do i know! Right?

PS: Sorry for any gramatical errors, English is my 3th language&I am still learning.
