Viagra researchers unclear on the concept?

August 27th, 2007 · 3 Comments

From an MSNBC article over the weekend, about a new study showing that Viagra raises oxytocin levels in rats:

Viagra may give men more than physical love
“I hope that this (finding) doesn’t cause some wild orgy of inappropriate recreational use.”

Sigh. I sure do. LOL

I think I’m going to make sure I have someone to have a wild orgy of inappropriate recreational use WITH first.

There were some talk about recreational use (beyond the obvious) a few years back I believe, which of course the comedy folks were ridiculing mercilessly (you hardly even have to try to come up with plenty of material there). It’s probably overblown now as well. If boosting oxytocin was a readily abusable thing, people would have been doing it way pre-viagra. It’s been available (by appropriate prescription of course) for ages used just as mentioned in pregnant women for a variety of “lack of body response” and to induce lactation if it’s slow. It’s not yet to be abused, unless you count inducing lactation without pregnancy for non-baby-feeding purposes as abuse which I doubt many feel is much of a social problem. It’s not harshly controlled (for exactly the lack of abuse) and not especially hard to get.
