As usual, I’m staying midway between SF and LA on my journey, because I have a friend in the area who is the president of the Sex Drive Advisory Board and we usually meet to picnic and palaver about future topics, direction, branding, etc.
And who pulls up in a bus outside but … Willie Nelson!
Walked the dog around the hotel as usual and kept an eye out for Willie (not usual) and didn’t see him, but at least three tour buses are rumbling out there and the artwork and license plates and so on — plus a woman we met on the walk — have all confirmed who ’tis.
Wouldn’t that be cool, to go hang in Willie Nelson’s room for the evening? You know he’d dig Jedi, and I’m a big fan in the sense that I really like his music, although I don’t know his life history, his album titles, or any of that other stuff. *shrug* It’s simpler than that. I love his songs. I’ve seen him live once a year for the past few years, although I missed him this year (hrm, is he on his way to the LA county fair? what month is it?). He puts in a great show.
Willie. Neat.

I’ve seen Willie a bunch of times, too. One time at an outdoor event called, “Mega-Country.” It was absolutely *pouring* that night. I mean, a true torrential downpour. The roadies were climbing in the riggings pushing the tarps that were the roof up so the water would drain off the back and not break the riggings and/or drown the band! Anyway, I was standing right up front getting soaked to the skin. As Willie sang he kept looking at me and smiling. Later I read in an interview that he picks a single person in the audience to whom he sings because it helps him to pretend he’s only playing for one person. I guess after all these years he still has a touch of stage fright. Go figure.

I love Willie too, seen all the movies he has been in, generally love his music. Unlike most of Hollywood and Nashville he is a real person. He doesn’t do the phony-baloney stuff just for advertising. He smokes dope and says so. He is old school country, the stuff I was raised on, not the hip hop stuff we get now, though I like that stuff too if it has heart. I guess that is what I like about his music, it still has heart. His tour with Toby Keith was awesome. Getting to hang with Willie would be amazing. Jedi would dig it too, if Willie didn’t get him too stoned, lol.
