Media still wondering if cybersex is cheating

August 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Cory posted some good thoughts on a recent morning show on which Kevin Alderman (aka Stroker Serpentine) and his wife Debra talked sensibly about their views of online relationships, sexuality, and love despite the network hosts’ confusion and the obligatory fear-based, simplistic approach to the question.

Of course cybersex can be cheating. So can a lot of things. Or it’s not cheating, nor are a lot of things. It’s a big, complicated topic, with many subquestions. Despite what we like to pretend, relationships are individual entities with individual needs and requirements and rewards. You can’t, even if you’re a big morning tv show, answer that question (or, really, many others about how people do relationships) with a blanket Yes or No.

People — media people especially — should have figured that out by now.

The mainstream media don’t want to hear about anything where the answer doesn’t reduce to a ten second Joe Piscopo sound-bite.

    Cybersex? Cheating!
